Right Wing Takes Serbian Elections
In parliamentary elections yesterday, voters in Serbia favored the right wing nationalist Serbian Radical Party over the pro-Western party that had controlled the country for three years.
The Radicals’ campaign focused on Serbia’s devastated economy and deep anti-West feelings generated by the NATO bombing of Serbia in 1999. In addition, Voice of America reported that pollsters in Serbia link the "popularity of nationalist groups to public unhappiness over the failure of the pro-western political allies to tackle poverty in Serbia, where nearly one in every three people of working age is unemployed."
